Graskop

The village of Graskop was established in 1880, and as it lies on the Drakensberg escarpment above the lowveld it has a pleasant, cooler climate with mild winters. In a malaria-free area, it is easily reached from the Lowveld via Kolwyn's Pass, from Sabie or from Pilgrims Rest. Its main economic activity revolves around forestry as the town lies in a grassy clearing in the extensive pine plantations of the area. It retains much of its rural charm.

Graskop is an ideal location for nature lovers as it is only 42km from the Kruger National Park - perfect for day tripping, and for the more active, the town offers bungi jumping over the nearby gorge, and some of the best hiking trails in the country.

Attractions and Activities

Situated on the designated "Panorama Route", it is an ideally central base from which to see the major sights of Mpumalanga, being close to the God’s Window viewpoint (7km), the gold rush town of Pilgrims Rest (14km), Bourke’s Luck Potholes (34km) Blyde River Canyon (58km) and the spectacular waterfalls that the province is famous for - Mac Mac, Berlin and Lisbon falls being the closest.

The Belvedere Trail takes you past waterfalls and leads you to the Blyde River Valley where the 3 Rondavels herald the beginning of the Blyde River Canyon, one of our country’s most spectacular natural wonders. The Fairyland Trail leads you to the edge of the escarpment overlooking the Lowveld.
The Protea Trail offers nothing more than enjoyment of the dense indigenous forests, waterfalls and bird life.

The town Of Graskop is now a major forestry and tourism centre and is the gateway to all the attractions that Mpumalanga has to offer.
