High on the northern grass and wetlands of Mpumalanga, near the village of Chrissiesmeer lies this beautiful sandstone guesthouse, with guest cottages and open-hearth fireplaces. With a view of the lakes it characterizes the stark beauty of this charming and unspoilt corner of the Highveld.

Accommodation


All the buildings and cottages have been built from sandstone, creating a charming atmosphere. We offer the options of Dinner, Bed and Breakfast (DBB), Bed and Breakfast (B&B) and Self-catering (SC). Each of our cottages and rooms are designed to suit different needs, from luxurious to artistic to a country atmosphere. Florence Guest Farm has four cottages and three rooms.

The Old Barn Cottage
Built in 1934, offers two fully equipped en-suite bedrooms, living room/kitchen with open hearth fireplace and a view of the Lake. Sleeps private four, max six

The Sandstone Cottage
An open plan cottage, with living room/kitchen and fireplace. From the outside braai-facility you have a view of the Lake. Sleeps private two max four

The Rondavel
Is a typical round African Hut with thatch roof, the living and bedroom are one room, and therefore you can sleep in front of the fire and have a view of the lake from your bed. It has an en-suite bathroom and separate kitchen. Sleeps private two and max four

The Nightingale Cottage
Offers a king-size bedroom, en-suite bathroom, separate room for a child and a kitchen/ living room area with a fireplace. Sleeps two private, max five

The Lavender Room
With its unique paint techniques has an en-suite bathroom, fridge, coffee making facilities, TV, radio and private garden entrance. Sleeps private two

Dining


English breakfasts and traditional farm cooked dinners with fresh home baked bread are served to treat our guests. We offer a cash bar but you are welcome to bring your own wine or beer.

The Farm


You are coming to a working farm and you are welcome to participate in the daily farming activities of sheep and cattle.

Weather


We are on the highlands of Mpumalanga, our summer temperatures are mild, max 28’C and our winters are very cold with beautiful frosted mornings and occasional snow. It is always chilly in the evenings even in summer, therefore all our cottages have fireplaces.

Location


• Florence Guest Farm provides the ideal first night stop over from OR Tambo on route to the Kruger or Swaziland
• It is the perfect hideaway for a weekend, only two hour’s drive from Gauteng
• Florence is an ideal stopover between The Kruger and KwaZulu Natal or The Drakensberg, The Battlefields and even Bloemfontein
• Swaziland is around the corner, with Oshoek border post the closest
• Chrissiesmeer, The lake district of South Africa offers 270 lakes and pans. The biggest freshwater lake in South Africa, Lake Chrissie, spanning 1500ha, is a must to see
