Situated between Middelburg and Witbank on the banks of the Great Olifants River, one and a half hours' drive from Pretoria and less than two hours' drive from Nelspruit and Kruger National Park.
A stretch of secondary road over a koppie, descending into the valley below, gives you a glimpse of the breathtaking location of the Lodge. Set in the heart of Mpumalanga - South Africa's cultural homeland - the Olifants River Lodge illustrates our rich heritage in terms of our beautiful landscapes!
Through the ages, the broad Olifants River has cut deeply into the ground, leaving a deep valley that is filled with a variety of indigenous fauna and flora, including the protected Cycad trees. Bird life is plentiful and a stay at the Olifants River Lodge will guarantee the delight of any birding enthusiast. The Olifants River itself winds past the Lodge itself, and provides an ideal setting for sipping sundowners, whilst watching a magical Mpumalanga sunset.
The Olifants River Lodge is situated 20 Kilometers outside of Middelburg. There are bold signs to direct you to a place where you truly can put your feet up and have a rest from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The Olifants River Lodge is the ideal place for a weekend getaway, and provides perfect opportunity for you to recharge your batteries.
Accommodation
Catered Accommodation
Accommodation varies from thatched rondawels, cabanas, self-catering villas, and a caravan park. Ideal for couples, these one en-suite rondawels come with meals included. As with all the other accommodation available, a host of facilities are available for you to enjoy with this splendid breakaway.
Self Catering Accommodation
Our large self-catering cabanas offer you a home away from home. Our cabanas offer you an open plan lounge with dinning area with a fully equipped kitchen. You cannot beat this choice to relax and breakaway from the hustle of everyday life. For the larger families, the two and three bedroom condos offer the ultimate spacious accommodation. All the condos come equipped with all the standard luxuries and are self-catering.
Caravan Park
Trailing along the Olifants River bank is the caravan park, ideal for camping and caravaning. Ablution blocks are available.
Facilities
The Olifants River lodge boasts a variety of activities for the whole family to partake in. Playgrounds provide children with a fun and safe environment in which to play. We recommend that you ride in the pedal-powered boats on the mighty Olifants River itself, or go for a lazy paddle on one of our many canoes. If you are a keen fisherman, then be sure to bring your fishing rods and bait to attempt catching the large and powerful fish that swim about in the waters of the Olifants River.
Among these activities, we have a volleyball court that provide ideal team building opportunities for groups corporate or private groups. After a long day of relaxing in the sun, be sure to cool off in our refreshingly sparkling pool.
Dining
The fully licensed “Bush Bar” is the ideal place for evening drinks or late afternoon sundowners, and is the perfect venue for watching your favorite game on our large data screen. The bar opens up onto a patio, kept cool in the shade of large trees, whilst you look onto a panoramic view of the Olifants River valley. The Lodge offers a fully licensed restaurant for family meals, or the romantic dinner for two.
Olifants River Lodge accommodates day visitors, and gladly allows picnicking in our beautiful gardens. Whilst on your day visit, be sure to go for a day walk to explore our rich natural heritage here in the Olifants River Valley. Be sure to pack your own picnic basket, although a kiosk is open, with all sorts of cold drinks and sweets for you to purchase.
Conferences
The Lodge offers a superb service as far as conference facilities are concerned. The six conference venues seats from 20 to 200 people (cinema style), and has full catering facilities, situated in a tranquil setting. Equipment includes: overhead projector, data projector (available for hiring), screen, TV, video and DSTV, flip charts, fax and typing facilities.
Facilities at Olifants River Lodge includes an action-training course, raft building equipment, spacious grounds, rolling lawns, a large swimming pool, hiking trails fishing, darts, pool table and volleyball, canoes and paddle boats.
Weddings
Olifants River Lodge is fully equipped to catering for weddings or any other special occasion that requires this type of venue. The lodge has six function venues that seats 20 to 200 people. Olifants River Lodge offers full catering for a variety of functions, formal or informal in our function hall. We stand by our quality of service and would like to help make the memory of your special day, a happy one!
The setting of the Olifants River Lodge is ideal for wedding receptions. Our well-maintained gardens provide you with the perfect backdrop for photographs and family portraits. Outdoor wedding receptions on hot summer days, are best spent underneath the large trees in our gardens, and will guarantee a most romantic and memorable gathering of close family and friends.
